Humpback Whales

one of the rarest and best-loved whales in the world has been spotted off the coast of Australia. humpback whales can grow to 60 feet (18 meters) long and they can weigh a whopping 40 tons (about half the size of Blue Whales), according to NOAA.

Their flippers can grow up to 16 feet (5 m) long, which is the largest appendage in the world. Their tails are also massive and grow up to 18 feet (5.5 m) wide. They travel mainly along the east coast of the South Island and through Cook Strait during winter and return along the west coast during spring. The Oceania population of humpback whales was classified in 2008 as 'endangered' by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). did you know male Humpback whales are smaller than female is bigger than the hose of the humpback whale upside down?

Shantytown Trip


When we went to the pipe we had to make the water go uphill. We used blocks to build up one end so the water would go up hill. it was cool.
